The Railways Ministry has taken the decision of constructing a special corridor by laying a double-track for the freight trains between Karachi Port and Pipri Yard, as per the spokesperson on Tuesday.
He further said that a double-track line would be laid for operating the freight train for the transporting of the containers between Karachi Port and Marshalling Yard Pipri. He also said that the Karachi Port has got the capacity of averaging 3 million containers on an annual basis and the project would be reducing the traffic burden on the roads of Karachi.
He also said that the special freight corridor would also produce a huge revenue for the railway sector. The spokesperson also added that the ministry would be acquiring the services of a company for the conduction of the feasibility study of the project.
Previously in the month of December 2020, the federal minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed made the announcement of a 10 per cent reduction in the fares of the freight trains.
While addressing a news conference, he said that the fares of the freight trains have also been reduced from Tuesday’s midnight.
The minister has given his commitment to convert the railway’s department into a profitable entity by entirely overcoming its deficit within 3 years. He also said that Pakistan is the only nation in the world where the passenger trains are generating profits.
He also said that the Main Line One, which is extended between Karachi to Lahore, would be a historic project in the 72-year history of Pakistan. He further maintained that it would generate 100,000 job opportunities.
