It has been reported on a social media platform that the New Islamabad International Airport Inauguration date has changed again to May 1st, 2018. The reason for the change is the unavailability of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

Though the inauguration date of the Airport has changed, the Airport will still be operational by 20th April 2018.

The first scheduled passenger flight will land at the New Islamabad International Airport on April 20. It will be PIA’s flight PK-300 from Karachi that will land in the New Airport, being the first flight. The Boeing 777 flight PK-300 will arrive at New Islamabad International Airport at 8:55 AM.

So the arrival and departure of the flights will start from April 20th, but the formal inauguration of the airport will be on May 1st.

The first plane has already landed at New Islamabad International Airport. Pakistan International Airline (PIA) successfully operated a mock test flight from the Airport on April 7th, 2018.

Four routes have been approved for New Islamabad International Airport.  In order to facilitate the commuters, fifty air-conditioned minibusses will operate on all the four routes. The fare per km will be Rs 6. Also, the total charge will not be more than Rs 260. Furthermore this transport facility will be available 24/7, on all seven days of the week.

Even though the airport will soon start operating, but still there are some security concerns raised relating to it. One of the concerns is current situation of the funnel areas of the Islamabad Airport which are quite near the Motorway and lights can cause a security risk. Rescue and evacuation system of the airport is also weak.
