NEPRA has been asked to increase the power tariff by Rs.1.93 per unit.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has been asked to hike the electricity tariff as per the reports of local media.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has asked NEPRA to surge the power tariff by Rs.1.93 per unit, based on a quarterly fuel price adjustment.
After the approval of the request, an extra burden of Rs.26.5 billion would be transferred to the end consumers.
Pakistan has agreed with the International Monetary Fund for increasing the electricity tariff on a quarterly adjustment basis starting from this month, as per an IMF report in July.
The IMF said in its report that eradicating the power sector losses on a justifiable basis would be requiring both improvements and new pricing policies in governance and infrastructure.
