The apex court of Pakistan on Tuesday has granted the three-time former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif bail for six weeks on medical grounds.
Three-member bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan headed by the chief justice took up the petition filed by the PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif challenging the earlier verdict announced by the Islamabad High Court dismissing his bail plea on medical grounds.
While announcing the verdict, the Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa granted former prime minister bail for six weeks against surety bonds amounting to Rs 5 million each.
The top court of the country, however, ordered that Nawaz Sharif will not be allowed to leave Pakistan.
The Supreme Court further said that the bail of Nawaz Sharif can be extended. If needed, the high court can be approached for an extension in the bail term.
