The Parliament of Pakistan urges National Highways Authority (NHA) to ask several toll plazas on double collecting taxes. The request was made in the 5th meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Communications.
It was highlighted that the NHA was collecting taxes at the Jamshoro toll plaza and then again at the M9 plaza. The two plazas were approximately two kilometers apart and there’s no sense in collecting toll tax from the travelers twice.
Further in Mansehra, the NHA is collecting toll taxes twice within a distance of just five kilometers. The committee requested NHA to stop collecting a double toll tax from the public in these areas.
The Committee was also informed about the Mansehra to Naran Road, the NHA informed that the Mansehra to Mahandri was 82 km and fairly in good conditions.
Although, the Mahandri to Larri and Larri to Naran roads are in bad condition due to the heavy loaded machinery. The National Highways Authority is maintaining this section through available routine maintenance but the damages are beyond the scope of routine maintenance.
The NHA is preparing emergency engineer estimates and is being submitted for approval. NHA also briefed the committee about projects which were initiated during the tenure of the previous government and the latest ones as well.
It’s also reported that the committee further directed for improving postal services in rural areas.
