An agreement was signed on Thursday between National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) and the post office. The agreement allows post offices to open CNIC registration counters. Post offices in many rural areas will now provide ease in the lives of the people by allowing CNIC registration at their offices. People will be able to submit their applications for the issuance of Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC). To be exact this service is as of now offered in 200 post offices in the rural areas.
At the signing of this agreement, Maulana Amir Zaman Federal Minister for Postal Services, Nisar Mir Nadra director general and Rubina Tayyab Pakistan Post chairperson were present.
As per the Nadra spokesperson currently, this service will be available in 200 post offices and with time it will be spread to all the post offices. Furthermore he added that other than CNIC registration & issuance these post offices will have other facilities as well for the people. The main aim of starting this service is to bring ease & simplicity in CNIC registration procedure for people living in rural and very far areas. It gets difficult for people to travel to the main city, visit Nadra offices and then get stuck in line from day to afternoon to get their CNIC registered. So starting this easier procedure should be appreciated. Also those who are lazy and don’t go for CNIC registration thinking it’s too hectic a procedure will have no excuse now.
Another great step taken recently by Nadra was to start issuing CNICs to transgenders. The status of transgender individuals in Pakistan has been upgraded. Those who have no information about their biological parents are also issued CNICs, which is quite commendable.
