On Tuesday, the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Law and Justice consistently approved the Maternity and Paternity Leave Bill.
Shazia Marri PPP lawmaker presented the bill, which accords employees up to six months of paid maternity and paternity leaves.
The reports said that the bill will be only applicable to public and private sector organizations of the federal capital territory.
The bill will be shelved in the National Assembly and broadcasted once it receives the agreement of the majority of lawmakers.
As per the bill, the mother will be entitled to six months paid maternity leave while the father will receive a one-month paternity leave on the birth of their first child.
On the birth of the second child, the mother will receive a four-month maternity leave while the father will be entitled to one-month paternity leave.
Moreover, the mother will receive a three-month maternity leave while the father will be entitled to one-month paternity leave on the birth of their third child.
Earlier in January, the Maternity and Paternity Leave Bill was approved by the Senate.
The previous version of the bill had anticipated six months and three months of paid maternity and paternity leaves correspondingly.
