Over the past few years, there has been an increase in the development of the electric vehicle market in Pakistan. Following the first-ever electric vehicle policy, there has been a boost in the electric vehicle market. One of the main aims is to transform the public transport sector of Pakistan, under the said policy through injecting electric buses into the system.
With the entry of multinational company MVM Energy (PVT) Ltd., there is a development on this front. The aim is to boost economic growth in Pakistan. Thus, under the CPEC initiatives, a Memorandum of Understanding is singed with a renowned bus manufacturer Yutong.
This agreement will lead to the launch of electric buses in Pakistan. By Feb 2020, the project will officially launch. MVM-Yutong will start a trial run in the first stage. The long term aim is to revolutionize the public transport system of Pakistan in line with the PM Imran Khan’s vision.
Initially, the buses will be integrated into the metro systems in Pakistan and later moved to intercity transportation.
Earlier we informed our readers about indication by Fawad Chaudhry, the federal minister for Science and Technology that Pakistan would be becoming the first country of South Asia which would be launching the battery-powered electric buses.
