Pakistan’s former leg snipper Mushtaq Ahmed has been appointed as spin-bowling coach for the team West Indies for a month.
Mushtaq Ahmed’s current contract with PCB as the National Cricket Academy head coach has ended the last month, the new contract will take effect from July allowing Mushtaq Ahmed to look for other opportunities.
West Indies Cricket Board has offered him a role to become the spin-bowling coach for the West Indies team which he accepted.
Mushtaq Ahmed being great spin bowler has served in England before, he worked as a spin –bowling consultant in England. Mushtag Ahmed told ESPNcricinfo that it’s been a privilege to work with West Indies cricket team.
They have produced many greatest cricketers and I have wonderful memories playing against some legendary cricketers during 90s, the West Indies cricket team is down currently but they have a system in place to keep producing good cricketers. It’s a short-period contract but still enough for me to create the difference—he added.
Mushtaq’s one month contract with West Indies Cricket team may not be very helpful for the team but it could help the team to get most out of the former spinner, Mushtaq 47 had previously spent 18 months with Pakistan Cricket Team as bowling coach from 2016 to 2017. Azhar Mehmood replaced him as a bowling coach on a temporary basis during the Asia Cup 2016; he worked along with Mushtaq during World T20.
