The newly developed Multan-Sukkur Motorway is now open for traffic. A press release is released by the Ministry of Communications in this regard. The 392-kilometer long Multan-Sukkur Motorway is also called M-5.
The time it takes to travel between Multan and Sukkur will be reduced considerably. The motorway is an essential part of the multi-billion dollar China Pakistan Economic Corridor. It will minimize the overall time it takes to transport goods to Karachi and Gwadar from the Karakorum Highway.
This will not just give a boost to the industry but also strengthen the agricultural sector. The people living in interior Sindh and Southern Punjab will have greater access to roads and motorway. It will allow them to connect to main road networks and boost socio-economic growth in these places.
It is pertinent to mention here that the total cost of the project is worth Rs 294 billion. The motorway starts from Multan, passes through different areas that include Shujabad, Jalalpur Pirwala, Uch Sharif, Ahmedpur Sharqia, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Obara, Ghotki and Pannu Aqil to reach Sukkur.
