Mukesh Kumar Chawla—the Sindh Minister for Excise, Taxation, Narcotics Control (ET&NC) and Parliamentary Affairs has informed that the E&T department has recovered Rs43017.962 million during the present fiscal year from the month of July 2018 to January 2019 in terms of different taxes while in the same period during the last fiscal year Rs36764.592 million were recovered.
Chawla shared this information while presiding over a meeting in his office on Sunday.
The secretary ET&NC—Abdul Rahim Shaikh, Additional Secretary—Dr Ghulam Mustafa Suhag, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, Director Generals—Shabbir Ahmed Sheikh and other directors also took part in the meeting.
While briefing the meeting the Director-General said that Rs4483.533 millions were recovered in regards to Motor Vehicle Tax and Rs33557.127 millions were gathered in Infrastructure Cess.
He also said that Rs270.363 millions were gathered in professional tax, Rs 1455.407 in property tax, Rs154.771 in cotton fee and Rs37.146 million in entertainment duty.
Mukesh Chawla asked the officers to work and improve the property tax collection. He also said that there is need to focus on it.
DG Shaikh said that a detailed plan has been drafted for the recovery of the property tax and teams had also been formed in this regard.
The Minister said he needs results. He also asked the DG Excise and Taxation to take proper action against the officers who have failed to acquire the tax collection targets.
