More than 5,000 healthcare professionals infected by the coronavirus in Pakistan

According to the official stats, more than 5,000 doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers have been infected by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) to date.

As per the details shared by the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination, a total of 5,164 healthcare professionals have been diagnosed with the deadly virus across the country, as of June 24.

The details said that the majority of the infected healthcare professionals have been reported from the northern province of the country Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), totaling 1,694.

Sindh is placed at the second number of the list as the number of the infected healthcare professionals reached 1,392, followed by the most populated province of the country Punjab, 1,099, Islamabad, 419, Balochistan, 391, Gilgit Baltistan (GB), 95, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K), 74.

As per the details, of the 5,164 healthcare professionals who have tested positive for the deadly virus, over 3,000 are doctors.

To date, 56 healthcare workers have also died after being infected with the novel coronavirus, majority, 21 in Sindh, 13 in Punjab, 10 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 5 in Balochistan, 4 in Islamabad and 3 Gilgit Baltistan.
