According to the details of the report presented to the Senate Committee for child protection, more than 4,000 cases against the child sexual abuse have been reported across the country in 2019.
The details further said that as many as 2,403 cases were filed in Pakistan’s most populated province Punjab alone. It is worth mentioning here that most of the cases were relating to the young boys.
Mazhar Khan—Hazara Deputy Inspector General (DIG), while briefing the Senate Committee, said that not only the victims were sexually abused, they were also brutally tortured.
The official further said that the key reasons behind the rise in the cases of child sexual abuse are late marriages and poverty.
During the session, the chairperson of the Senate Committee—Senator Robina Khalid said that Pakistani media should highlight the factors behind the abusive crimes against the children.
She further added that the authorities of the Pakistani government need to take initiatives to create awareness against the child sexual abuse in society.
