More than 1500 bikes got penalty for violating double helmet law in Capital

New Double helmet law was announced a month ago and long awareness campaign was started by the capital administration. The traffic police Islamabad started implementing the new rule of wearing the helmet on a motorbike since October 11, according to the rule both the rider and pillion on a bike must wear the helmet.

According to the sources, Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has ticketed more than 1500 motorcyclists in a single day for violating the rule of wearing the helmet. Several hundred were fined also on Thursday ITP officials said.

The new rule started WEF Wednesday morning October 11, 2017, which makes it compulsory for both riders to wear the helmet for their safety in Islamabad. ITP has deployed various squads at various locations in Islamabad to watch for the safety regulation is being implemented properly.

The officials said, rider of the bike exclusively be penalized if the person sitting on the back seat is not wearing the helmet, it’s the responsibility of rider/driver to make sure his pillion passenger is wearing the helmet before starting the journey.

The new rule was launched in response to various media reports about increasing road accidents in the capital lately. Senior Superintendent Traffic Police Malik Matloob said they are seeking to reduce the number of motorbike incidents in the capital.
