The popular Monal Restaurant located in the Margalla Hills has been sealed by the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency Islamabad and Chief Commissioner Office Islamabad. It has been sealed for cutting trees illegally for its expansive construction activities.
According to the Climate Change Ministry’s Media focal person, Muhammad Saleem, it came into notice of the Prime Minister’s Advisor Malik Amin Aslam that there was illegal construction going on for the expansion of the Monal restaurant. It was started by the restaurant management and it resulted in a significant tree cover loss & land degradation in its vicinity.
He said, “Taking serious notice of the illegal construction activities and tree cutting, the advisor Malik Amin Aslam on Tuesday directed the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency Islamabad (Pak-EPA Islamabad) to take legal action against the culprits.”
Raid was conducted by the District Administration on 18th May’s evening and henceforth the destruction images that appeared on social media seem real.

Two individuals were arrested on the spot during the raid while FIR NO 224/20 has also been lodged in Police Station Kohsar, F/7, Islamabad
Aslam also said, “Update – 1. The degraded area of #MHNP under #Monal will be totally rehabilitated and re-forested and I will initiate the plan tomorrow on site 2. The #FIR is attached and culprits will be taken to task 3. #MHNP is a national resource which shall be protected at all costs IA”
