On Sunday, the WAPDA Chief Muzammil Hussain said that the first unit of the Mohmand Dam would start its operations by December 2025.
After the Tarbela Dam, the Mohmand Dam is anticipated to be the next big water project in the nation and is being built day and night, he said.
The chairperson said that the Mohmand Dam was the 5th highest concrete-face-rock-fill dam in the world, the chairperson said that while addressing the media at the dam site. He also said that although it began late, construction of the dam would be super beneficial for Pakistan.
The dam is anticipated to produce 800 MWs of electricity and would enable the shortage of 1.3 million acre-feet of water. Hussain said that from 2020 to 2028 nearly 2,900 MWs of the produced electricity would both be cheap and green.
The dam site is located in the Mohmand district of KP. The city residents of the district are equally excited at the making of the dam as they thought it would be improving their standard of living.
A resident said that it would be making the lands fertile and would refill the streams leading to the fields. He further added that the construction of the dam would bring employment and education opportunities for the people.
The chairperson of WAPDA added that Rs.309 billion was being spent on the making, which has been paid by the authority and through international funding.
