Mobile Phone Imports in Pakistan up by 14.51 percent during the last eight months

As Pakistan is struggling for the balance of trade the mobile phone imports during the first eight months of the current fiscal year 2017-18 has seen a sharp increase of 14.51 percent as compared to the same period last year 2016-17.

The total value of mobile imports was recorded at $526 million during July-February 2017-18 period which was up from the last recorded $459.38 million in the previous period July-February 2016-17.

The latest data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) year-on-year basis indicates that mobile phone imports have shown an upward trend, the imports rose to $69.78 million in February 2018 from $60.03 million in February 2017. In the month of February, there was an increase of 16.24 percent.

Apart from mobile phones, Pakistan’s overall telecom group imports also witnessed an increase of 13.7 percent during the same eight months period July-February 2017-18 as compared to the last fiscal year’s period.

The total telecom imports of this period were recorded at $1.003 billion which was significantly low during the previous period with $882.17 million.

While considering year-on-year basis, overall telecom imports in February 2018 were up by 25.6 percent and 57.9 percent when it is compared to the imports during February 2017. Whereas on a month-on-month basis, the import decreased by 4.48% as compared to January 2018. The telecom import in February 2018 was accounted for $127.38 million against the import of $101.415 million in February 2017 and $133.366 million in January 2018 respectively.
