Mobile phone imports in Pakistan have witnessed a staggering increase of 18 percent during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year 2017-18 as compared to the corresponding period (first 10 months of FY2016-17). According to the data revealed by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Pakistan has imported 18 percent more mobile phones in first 10 months of the current FY2017-18 as compared to the previous 10 months of FY2016-17.
Pakistan has imported mobile phones worth of $678 million up by 18 percent, while, the period under review last year witnessed $572 million worth of imports.
Industry experts say that investment in mobile industry can be increased if the government cuts taxes and control the illegal inflow of mobile devices.
However, mobile phones imports were down during the fiscal year 2016-17 as compared to the previous corresponding period 2015-16, it was reported last year. From $753.22 imports in 2015-16, the imports slumped to $709.69 inflicting 5.78 percent decrease.
Pakistan’s mobile needs are increasing with every passing year, demand for smartphones is incredibly strong, imported mobiles from China and Chinese brands are making the real difference. There is a huge chunk of imports from China as compared to the rest of the world. Pakistan’s mobile market is expected to grow further at an unprecedented rate.
