A bench of the Peshawar High Court-PHC on Thursday showed anger over the mistranslation of a verse of the Holy Quran in the textbook of Islamiat and called the federal secretary of education for an explanation.
The bench observed that the translation in the 9th and 10th-grade textbook was equivalent to tarnishing the Islamic history and appeared to be part of any agenda for misleading the students.
The bench instructed that the federal secretary education should appear on the 10th of July and provide an explanation for the blunder that was committed and why an FIR should not be filed against the responsible persons.
The bench heard a petition filed jointly by Advocate Ibrar Hussain and many others, who requested the court to act against the persons responsible for the mistranslation of a verse of the Holy Quran regarding the collection of bounties during the war.
Advocate Akbar Yousaf along with the other lawyers said that in the controversial translation of the verse regarding the collection of bounties during the war by the Muslims at the time of Holy Prophet (PBUH) was referred with the term “loot and plunder” which was the distortion of Islamic history.
He said that the mistake had been made in the Islamiyat course book for the 9th and 10th grade in schools under the supervision of various education boards in the province.
When the secretary and the representatives of the textbook board appeared before the court, the court was informed that they had received the curriculum from the federal government and had printed it. The court was further briefed that the translation was taken from the Tafseer of a well-known religious scholar.
