Microsoft Releases Fix For Printer And App Crash In Windows 10

windows 10 update

Microsoft has released a second cumulative update this month for the older Windows 10 versions 1909 to 1803. The updates bring quality improvements and fix the first bugs that surfaced after the June Patch Day.

The updates are “out of order”, as Microsoft informs, but they are not security-related changes. Instead, it fixes two annoying issues that a number of Windows 10 users reported after the recent patch day. This includes a problem that print jobs did not print and connected applications crashed. It is, therefore, possible that there will be further updates for Windows 10 in the next few days.

In any case, Microsoft announces that the printer fix will also be released for other affected versions in the coming days – the new version 2004 aka Windows 10 May 2020 Update should then also be with include. The updates now released are all marked as optional and are recommended to users who are affected by the printing problem. According to the release notes in the Knowledge Base, there is only one change for printers.

These updates are available

Microsoft has released new cumulative updates for the Windows 10 versions 1903 aka Windows 10 May Update and 1909 aka November Update for this month. The new version numbers are 18362.904 and 18363.904.

All information about the update is available in the Knowledge Base at KB4567512 . Troubleshooting is also available for versions 1809 and 1803 KB4567513 for version 1809 and KB4567514 for version 1803). The new cumulative updates are available now. They replace the previous patch day updates and only address problems in dealing with print jobs. The list of changes is therefore short this time.

Update content

The non-security updates include quality improvements. The main changes include:

  • Addresses an issue that could prevent certain printers from printing. The printing process could generate an error or close unexpectedly when trying to print, and the printer will not be printed. Application problems may also occur when trying to print, e.g. For example, an error message, or the application closes unexpectedly. This problem could also affect software-based printers, for example when printing to PDF.

If you install one of the new updates, you must have loaded a current Servicing Stack Update beforehand.
