Metro Bus for Islamabad Airport to Reach Completion by March 2020

The federal government is anticipating completing the extension of the Metro Bus from Peshawar Mor to the New Islamabad International Airport within the span of 3 months.

This was indicated during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Reforms.

While briefing the committee, the Secretary Planning said that 2 parts of the new Metro route have reached completion and work on the remaining parts in in progress which would be completed by March 2020.

The committee urged the relevant authorities to keep a fast track on the slow-moving projects.

The committee asked about the year-wise surge in the toll tax at M-1 and M-2 motorways. The committee was told that the surge was because of the contract and the average number of automobiles using the motorway.

But the committee mentioned that between the years 2005 and 2019, the rates of M-1 have surged from Rs.80 to Rs.240 for cars and Rs.100 to Rs.400 for the wagons. The rates have also increase for minibuses from Rs.140 to Rs.550 and for regular buses from Rs.210 to Rs.790.

In the same way, M-2 rates have also experienced an increase from Rs.250 for cars to Rs.750, from Rs.300 to Rs.1250 for wagons, from Rs. 450 for buses to Rs.2510 and for minibuses from Rs.176 to Rs.300.

It was mentioned that NHA spends Rs.92 billion per year on the renovation and maintenance of the motorways throughout Pakistan.
