Met Office Warns Karachi of Urban Flooding

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), it is expected that Karachi will receive rainfall with a thunderstorm on 6th July (Monday). The department warned the port city of urban flooding during this rain spell.

The authorities have asked to clean all the drains before this wet spell.

On the other hand, K-electric is asked to complete the earthing of electricity poles before the rain. Last year in Karachi, 49 people died by electrocution in the rainfall.

On Monday, a westerly wave is expected to reach the port city.

As per the Met office, the rain can start in the evening time or in the night tomorrow.

Moreover, the Met Department said that the Monsoon current is going to strengthen in many parts of Sindh from the next week, mainly in Karachi, Thatta, Sanghar, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Tharparkar, Badin, Dadu, Umarkot and Mirpurkhas.

The forecasts say that the rain spell will continue till Tuesday, also during this period, few heavy falls are also expected.

The rain spell expected on Monday and Tuesday can cause urban flooding in Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, and Karachi. The Met department warned the concerned authorities to remain alert during this wet spell and take all safety measures.

Weather officials say that the dust storms are also predicted before the monsoon. The winds are going to blow at a speed of 20-30 nautical miles. Moreover, the rainfall will continue in interval till the morning of the 8th of July.
