Since smartphones are striving for best graphics, internet connectivity, and speed performance it’s the chip maker’s job to keep pace with them to achieve the maximum output required. Qualcomm, Intel, and Samsung are focused on 5G chipsets and achieved some success in it, the companies have also inked deals with smartphone makers to take their chips on board.
Earlier this year it was reported that MediaTek will launch high-end SoC based on the 7nm process for premium mobile devices, it was also named Helio X series, however, the name is changed now as Dimensity 1000.
MediaTek is not keeping itself behind, today the company has announced its first 5G SoC which is built on both Cortex-A77 CPU and Mali-G77 GPU. The company has also announced that the chip would be based on the 7nm process. The MediaTek Dimensity 1000 is the first premium 5G chip ever produced by MediaTek, the company now seems to target high-end smartphones.
The new Dimensity chip is intended to make a distinction between the Helio series for 4G SoCs and Dimensity for 5G SoCs. The company has also announced the release date of the SoC which would be the first quarter of 2020.
Dimensity 1000 Specifications—CPU, CPU and AI Processing Unit
The new MediaTek Dimensity 1000 is built with octa-core 4-4 CPU. The Soc has 4 ARM Cortex-A77 cores which clocked at 2.6GHz and four ARM Cortex A55 smaller cores clocking at 2.0GHz. The core configuration of MediaTek SoC is different from all other SoCs including Huawei Kirin 990 and Exynos 990 which has a configuration of 2+2+4. However, Snapdragon 855 SoC has a CPU configuration of 1+3+4 cores.
The development by MediaTek would give a boost in performance with a 7nm process and not having medium cores rather all four A77 cores clocking at 2.6GHz. The SoC is also coupled with IPC improvements if A77 architecture by 20-35%. According to the company, MediaTek will surpass its flagship competitors with this approach. ‘XDA developers’ has provided a detailed specifications overview of Dimensity 1000 where you can get the details about connectivity, camera, and graphics hardware performance. President Joe Chen of MediaTek said, “MediaTek’s 5G technology goes head-to-head with anyone in the industry. We are interested to see if these claims play out in practice over the coming months.”
