Do you know which fruit is called as the ‘king of fruits’? Mangoes. The season is on in Pakistan and the All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Importers, and Merchants Association (PFVA) is expecting mango export of 100,000 metric tons in 2017.
Last year, PFVA’s target to export mangoes was same as this year but they crossed the limit and exported 128,000 metric tons of mangoes. This resulted in USD 68 million as disclosed by the Patron-in-Chief of PFVA Mr. Waheed Ahmad.
PFVA was expecting to set a much bigger target in 2017. However, due to the unforeseen weather conditions, the production of mangoes this year is in the shortfall of 600,000 metric tons.
Pakistani mango is counted as one of the most loved mangoes all around the world. And this is why the export has reached to 50 countries. Waheed also told that this year China, USA, and South Korea are three of the most focused countries for PFVA.
Further talking to the media, Waheed told that he has been forcing the government of Pakistan to apply new technology so that the production of the mangoes could be kept at the maximum level even in unforeseen weather conditions.
He also told that to increase the revenue he has requested the government to reduce the export cost and help merchandisers to earn more. This would help both the government of Pakistan and the merchandisers.
According to the Patron-in-Cheif of PFVA Mr. Waheed Ahmad, last year the export value of mangoes to the USA stood between USD 680 to USD 700 per metric ton. But for 2017, it’s expected to stand at USD 650 per metric ton of mangoes, only.
