This train would prove beneficial for the transportation system of Saudi Arabia. The train is 450-kilometer-long and is a good quality addition to transport for the Kingdom. MRDA said that the train would prove a safe, quick and easy option for transportation between Makkah and Madinah. The train would also be facilitating its services for traveling between the cities of Jeddah and Rabigh.
The train holds the capacity to accommodate 417 passengers in a single trip. It is provided with the best features and would be operated following world class procedures. Initially the project targets at making 35 trains.
The train station for Makkah is located at the main entrance of the city, at a distance of three kilometers from Haram near Al-Rusaifah and along the King Abdulaziz Road at Knowledge Economic City (KEC) for Madinah.
The train travels from Makkah passing via the city of Jeddah. In Jeddah, there are two stations, located in the middle of Jeddah at Sulaymaniyah and at KingAbdulaziz International Airport. Then the train travels through Rabigh, where the station is close to King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).
As per MRDA, the express train would shorten the travel time between Makah and Madinah to about two and a half hours and from Makah to Jeddah to approximately twenty-one minutes.
