A major power breakdown in Karachi has affected many parts of the city today morning.

As per reports, the power supply is to remain suspended to the areas which include Teacher Society, Model Colony, Defence View, Malir and Defence Housing Authority.

The other areas that are affected because of this power breakdown are Gulberg, Akhtar Colony, Tariq Bin Ziad Colony, Kashmir Colony, Mehmoodabad and some areas of Clifton.

According to a spokesperson of K-Electric, an Extra High Tension (EHT) line has tripped, which has led to the breakdown. He said that the supply from the national grid is also deferred. He informed that the teams of KE are working on the issue to resolve it as soon as they could.

Today is a normal working day that means the availability of electricity is all the more needed as everyone around the morning hours is getting ready to either leave for schools or offices.

Yesterday, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) raised the electricity tariff by Rs 1.16 per unit for adjusting the monthly fuel for the month of August.

As per the notification, NEPRA has revised and analysed the increase of Rs 1.16 per unit in the applied tariff for power distribution companies (DISCOs) on account of changes in the fuel variations for the month of August 2018.

The included distribution companies are Hyderabad, Quetta, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, Sukkur, Islamabad, Hyderabad, Quetta and the tribal areas’ electricity supplying firms.
