LHC orders to enforce strict ban on child labour under 15

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday ordered the provincial government of Punjab to enforce a strict ban on the employment of the children as domestic workers who are under the age of 15.

The high court issued the ordered in its detailed judgment in the child workers case.

The judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC), Justice Jawad Hassan announced the 22-page verdict on Monday and ordered the government of Punjab to take the legislative measures on the issue.

The high court in its verdict has ordered the constitution of special courts to ensure the protection of the children under the age of 15 employed as the domestic workers.

The bench of the high court has also ordered to establish the child protection committees for the children working as domestic help.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has further ordered the provincial government to issue a yearly notification about the salaries of the children who are between the age of 15 to 18 years. The bench of the LHC has fixed the maximum working hours for the child workers at three hours in a day.
