The Lahore High Court might ban Indian movies in Pakistan. LHC has been asked to ban the trade, exhibition of Indian films in the country.
As Bollywood has banned Pakistani signers and actors following the Pulwama attack, a citizen Sheikh Muhammad Latif has filed a petition that according Import Policy Order 2016 announced by the federal government there was a ban placed on import of Indian movies and other Indian content.
But the then Prime Miniter through a Ministry of Information notification on 31st January 2017, announced that all international movies should continue to play in Pakistan as the Pakistani film industry was reviving as well.
As per the petitioner this notification was unlawful as the federal cabinet did not approve. The approval of federal cabinet was a must under a Supreme Court judgment in Mustafa Impex case of 2012.
He said that All Indian Cine Workers has officially banned all Pakistani actors and singers working in Bollywood industry following the terror attack in Pulwama.
Thus petitioner has asked Supreme Court to order the government to take strict action against Indian content being aired on Pakistani channels. Further on stating that the government should impose complete ban on exhibition of Indian movies as per the Import Policy Order 2016.
