LG Launches UltraFine Pro First 4K OLED Monitor

LG UltraFine Pro

The South Korean manufacturer LG is not only using the online edition of CES 2021 to present new smart TVs, but also to expand its monitor portfolio. The UltraFine OLED Pro display is the first 32-inch device with organic light-emitting diodes and a contemporary Ultra-HD resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. The 4K monitor is sold under the product designation 32EP950, although the real screen diagonal is only 31.5 inches – LG rounds up at this point. The company primarily wants to target creative workers with the new model.

High contrast, HDR function and short response times are impressive

In a first video, the LG UltraFine Pro monitor is advertised with a contrast ratio of 1,000,000: 1 typical for OLED panels. Furthermore, both the Adobe RGB and the DCI-P3 colour space should be covered to 99 percent and the screen should receive a VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification. It is curious, however, that LG does not seem to rely on one of its own displays. According to the report from FlatpanelsHD, the panel will be contributed by Japan OLED (JOLED), which among other things also provides the competitor Eizo with suitable technology. And that although the display division of the South Koreans has already announced that it will manufacture panels below the new 42-inch limit in the near future.

LG specifies the response time as just one millisecond (1ms GTG), but only achieves a refresh rate of 60 Hz. One reason why the screen is not also advertised for gaming, where Hertz numbers of over 120 Hz are expected. Features such as Nvidia G-Sync or AMD FreeSync are also missing. Apart from that, the new 4K OLED monitor can have a variety of connections. While PCs can be connected either via HDMI or via two DisplayPorts, the LG UltraFine OLED Pro also serves as a USB hub. In addition to a USB-C interface with a 90-watt power supply, three normal-sized USB-A connections are installed along with a classic audio jack socket.

No information is yet available about the launch date or a price of the LG UltraFine OLED Pro (31.5 inches).
