Lahore is ranked amongst the World’s safest cities with an improvement of 56 ranking places. A survey was conducted by Numbeo that is a crowd-sourced global database having statistics of reported consumer prices, perceived crime rates, and healthcare quality among other.
On the World Crime Index (WCI) Lahore is ranked even safer than Paris, New York, Berlin and Chicago. This is as per a survey conducted by Numbeo.
In the Numbeo survey, Lahore was ranked 230th out of a total 374 cities of the world. In Jan 2019, Lahore was placed at 174th position and it moved to 202 with an improvement of 28 places in mid-2019. As Lahore’s ranking has increased, it means a decrease in crime rate.
The ranking of Karachi, the largest city of Pakistan has improved by 22 places on the list. It moved from 66th to 88th position.
There was an analysis of the last 5 years of ratings of the two major Pakistani cities which unveiled that there has been improvement in the rating with each passing year. Back in 2014, Lahore was ranked 74th while Karachi was ranked 6th. Lahore’s position improved to 202 in mid-2019 while Karachi’s position improved to 71.
Furthermore, the survey revealed that Karachi’s ranking has improved 11 times since 2014, while the improvement in Lahore’s ranking has tripled.
Also, it showed that the World Crime Index rating by Numbeo has been in the ascending order continuously. The index revealed that in 2014, Lahore was on 74th position while Karachi was on 6th. Then in 2015 the position of Lahore improved to 89th while Karachi to 10th. Now recently in 2018, Lahore’s ranking was 138th while Karachi’s ranking was 50th.
However, senior police officials are doubtful regarding the credibility of the index.
