Lahore is now the third most polluted city in the world. According to Air Visual, the air quality of Lahore has become ‘unhealthy’ from ‘hazardous’. For weeks, Lahore was the second most polluted city in the world.
Now Lahore has been replaced by Tashkent in Uzbekistan. Delhi still retains the top position as the most polluted city. It has a ‘very unhealthy’ air quality ranking.
Earlier Karachi’s air quality ranking was classified as ‘unhealthy’. Now it is recorded as ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’. The Air Quality Index of Karachi is 144 and it is the 10th most polluted city in the world.
According to Air Now, the air quality index from 151 to 200 is called as ‘very unhealthy’. This air quality is dangerous for sensitive people including children, elderly people and those who suffer from lung diseases.
The AQI ranking between 101-150 is called ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’. It is again dangerous for ‘sensitive groups’, however, “the general public is not likely to be affected”.
Smog is being called the fifth season of Lahore, which has deprived people of sunshine from November to February. This year the situation worsened in Lahore, as the schools were closed in the city due to dense smog.
Adviser to Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam said, “With the help of the World Bank the government was launching a programme to address the air quality issue.”
