The Lahore High Court ordered to remove the acting chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Syed Ismail Shah on Thursday and ordered the Federal government to appoint new chairman within 30 days.
In the petition, filed by Shiraz Zaka, Syed Ismail had served as Chairman PTA for five years, but according to the existing regulations, the PTA chairman could hold office for four years.
In the order, Justice Shahid Kareem asked the Federal government to appoint new chairman by advertising a vacancy and ensure the appointment within 30 days.
Syed Ismail was appointed as PTA chairman in 2013. Farooq Awan, a chairman before Shah was removed from the office by the Lahore High Court as well because the court said that his appointment was in violation of the PTA act.
