Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport will be sealed on the arrival of ex-disqualified Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz. Security departments have decided to seal the airport at the arrival of Nawaz and his daughter. A plan has been prepared by the law enforcement agencies through which Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz will be sent directly to Islamabad on another plane immediately after their arrival in Lahore.
After the Supreme Court announced the verdict in Avenfield case Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz decided to return to Pakistan from London on July 13th. They were staying in London due to the critical health condition of Kulsoom Nawaz.
Maryam Nawaz’s husband Captain (R) Safdar has already been arrested by National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) investigation team from Rawalpindi. He was arrested after he finished his address to his supporters in Rawalpindi earlier on Sunday. On his arrest, Safdar declared that he is a political prisoner, who is going to jail for safeguarding the finality of the Prophethood (PBUH)
On Friday, July 6th, Supreme Court sentenced Nawaz Sharif for 10 years, Maryam Nawaz for 7 and Captain Sardar for 1 year respectively. As elections are expected to be held on July 25th in Pakistan, this decision will have an impact on the results of the elections. Whether that effect will be beneficial for Pakistan or not, is too early to say.
Almost a year ago Nawaz Sharif was disqualified as the Prime Minister of Pakistan and now a year after he is being jailed along with his daughter and son in law. Panama papers revealed that Sharif has expensive undeclared property, Avenfield flats in London which led to this decision and announcement by the court.
