For the first time, the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has included breast cancer in the free treatment programme meant to provide the medical services in the next three years to more than 6,000 patients suffering from blood and general cancers.
The patients suffering from breast cancer, which is one of the second commonest types of disease, will get the latest medical treatment at Hayatabad Medical Complex under a cost-sharing formula with Novartis Pharma, which signed a memorandum of understating (MoU) with the health department of KP back in 2011.
As per the information, almost 40,000 patients suffering from several types of blood cancer have benefited from the programme to get free treatment, costing Rs 19 billion, since its launch.
The patients who have been treated through this programme included 58 percent male and 42 percent female.
According to the details, the new programme to be launched in June 2019, to continue till 2022.
The provincial government owned 10 percent share in the programme while 90 percent comes from the company.
