The KP provincial government is expected to present its science, technology, and innovation (STI) policy. This would make K-P the first province amongst the other provinces in Pakistan to develop its STI policy.
The Directorate of Science and Technology (DoST) of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) has accelerated work on finalizing the first-ever STI policy of the province.
It is expected that the draft policy will be presented before the stakeholders for consultation during a national workshop. It is scheduled to be held on February 13.

According to a member of the executive committee who is working on developing the policy said that STI plays an important role in the socio-economic development of Pakistan along with achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As per the executive committee member, the socio-economic development process is not just based on exploiting the existing natural resources but also on developing the STI capabilities of Pakistan. He said that in many countries the STI policies and strategies were formulated at the central and provincial levels.
The Directorate of Science and Technology consulted with all the relevant stakeholders in the first round and took their input via workshops and surveys to prepare the zero draft of the policy. Then in the second round of the consultation, a national workshop is being organized. There the zero draft of the policy will be presented before the concerned stakeholders and experts and their view and suggestions will be taken for improving it.
