Kashmir Highway in Islamabad has been renamed Srinagar Highway by Pakistani experts. This step has been taken to show solidarity with the people of Kashmir before Youm-e-Istehsal.
Thus all the bearing sheets on Dhokari Chowk, Faizabad, Zero Point, Golra Chowk, and Express Highway have been altered to replace Kashmir Highway with new Srinagar Highway name.
On 5th August, the interstate will be authoritatively initiated. It was announced by the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi that “Yaum-e-Istehsal” will be marked on 5th August as a response to India revoking Article 370 of its constitution to annex the disputed territory.
The Foreign Minister said that it is time that the whole nation should raise voice against the military siege by India of IoK after revoking its special status. He said that we need to stand with Kashmiris and give this message to them that they are not alone in their fight for the right to self-determination.
He said, “On the day (August 5, 2019), the IIOJK’s flag was downed, the Kashmiris were put behind the bars, and perhaps today no Eid prayer congregation was held in Srinagar.”
He said that the Kashmiri people are facing oppression, persecution under India’s military siege for the last one year.
On another note the twin cities citizens do have a connection with the name ‘Kashmir Highway’, it would take time to get used to the new name.
