In order to monitor the behaviour of the traffic police personnel with the public, the Karachi Traffic Police have decided to buy as many as 710 body cameras for on-duty officers.
According to the details, at least 500 cameras will be bought in the first phase. The purchase of the cameras will be funded by 15% of the money collected through the traffic tickets and other 210 cameras will be bought from the police budget. The cameras are expected to be purchased within a period of three months.
All the cameras will be linked with the control rooms of the Karachi Traffic Police via online connections.
As per the details, all the devices will be purchased from the National Radio Telecommunication Corporation for the amount of approximately 110 million rupees.
The decision to buy the cameras was taken during a meeting of a board responsible for the purchase of equipment for the city police department—which functions under Addition Inspector General (AIG) Ghulam Nabi Memon.
The chief of the Karachi Traffic Police said that he believes that this will help improve the conduct of policemen, as well as the public.
