Following Punjab and Islamabad, Karachi would be getting a mobile application that would be giving the permit to people to buy vegetables and fruits at the government-approved rates.
The Karachi commissioner, Iftikhar Shallwani, indicated during a TV interview said that the idea for this app is based on the concept of the Durust Daam app being used in the federal capital. The application is presented in the final stages of the development and would be introduced in the month of February.
During the interview, Shallwani had a discussion on the issues being faced by Karachi and shared his vision for the largest city of the country.
The commissioner said that the administration is working on bringing Karachi on the level with the international cities.
He said that Karachi hosts many sporting events owing to which many tourists come here. It is hence, a must to make it a pedestrian-friendly city.
He also mentioned that the three biggest issues of the city are the management of solid waste, water and transport. He said that they are working on their solutions.
He indicated that the need to manage the city’s traffic and extending the footpaths and the pedestrian bridges for dealing with the issues related to the traffic. He also said that they are working on the making of another bridge on the I.I Chunrigar road.
The commissioner said that he has also had meetings with the many school owners for finalizing a design to make the traffic for school one-way to avoid the gridlock caused by the automobiles that come from all the directions.
