Due to tripping in the national grid, a massive power breakdown was witnessed in many parts of Sindh including the metropolitan city Karachi.
According to K-Electric the power breakdown occurred due to tripping in the national grid but work is being done to restore electric supply in the areas affected.

80% of Karachi went in to complete blackout. The most affected areas were of Defence, Clifton, Landhi, Korangi, Baldia Town, Liaquatabad, Malir, Shah Faisal, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulsitan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Maymar, North Karachi and New Karachi.
All the industrial sites of Karachi were badly affected by the power outage. Along with Karachi, other cities of Sindh also witnessed disruptions.
K-Electric stated, “Due to tripping in National Grid, power supply is affected to most parts of Sind including Karachi. K-Electric’s restoration efforts are underway. We regret inconvenience caused to customers and request their cooperation during this time.”
In less than a week, this is the second time Karachi has gone in to complete darkness. Earlier the city witnessed power outage on 20th January owing to tripping of feeders due to rainfall
K-Electric spokesperson said that no electricity in “few areas of Karachi due to rain”.
Hopefully, the issue will be resolved in time, but it is important to improve our systems and avoid such incidents in future. Power Breakdown in almost the whole city can cripple the city and affect the economic & social life.
