Iftikhar Shallwani Karachi Commissioner issues SOPs for the retrieval and identification of the bodies of the plane crash victims.
A few days back on 22nd May, a plane A-320 of the PIA (Pakistan International Airlines) crashed in model colony Karachi. The incident took the lives of 99 passengers on board, only two of the passengers miraculously survived.
In this regard, the Karachi commissioner released a notification that explained the SOPs that need to be followed while identifying and retrieving the bodies of the victims.
As per the SOPs, Assistant commissioners will be allotted at the Chhipa Center Nursery and Sohrab Goth Edhi Center.
Medico-legal officers and senior police officials will be present at the morgues in order to complete the legal formalities with the district administration.
DNA tests will be carried out after which the police officials will confirm the availability of the body via physical verification.
After that, the assistant commissioner will arrange its ghusal, shroud, and coffin. All the victims’ bodies will be draped in the national flag as per the SOPs.
Later on, the MLO will be issued a report by the Sindh police for immediate issuance of the death certificate.
The police officials are responsible to contact the victim’s family for receiving the body from the morgue.
After the arrival of their families, the officials will receive them, console them, and provide them with necessary documents.
As soon as the formalities are completed, the body will be handed over to the family by a police party with honor.
All officials are urged to take minimum time in this whole process and show empathy and respect to the families.
