K-P to Establish Special Drug Courts

In order to combat the risk of drug abuse and narcotics trafficking the K-P provincial government has made this decision to establish special drug courts in the province.

In a statement, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) said that the government has consulted with the Peshawar High Court (PHC) in this regard which would then make the decision of the jurisdiction and power of these courts and procedure for their establishment. For hearing such cases, the PHC can authorize session judges and additional session judges.

Provincial government prepared the law under which an accused in the drugs-related cases can not get bail until and unless the special drug court approves it against surety bonds.

Also, the government will approve the establishment of the excise police station. If not this, then a few police stations in the province with have the authority to deal with such cases. These police stations will be named excise police stations. They will be headed by excise officials. According to the statement, all the drug relation actions that the police take since 4th September 2019 will be catered under this law.
