Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration while conversing with a local newspaper on Thursday mentioned that in Pakistan presently five beverage international brands are doing business. Out of the five, only one brand is such that is meeting the national and international food quality ideals.
Saad Bin Asad Assistant Commissioner of Islamabad and some officials of the PSQCA (Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority) some time in the start of this month visited the manufacturing plants of different local and international brands of bottled water and beverages.
They collected some samples which were then sent to the National Institute of Health (NIH) for study. The reports yielded that only one firm’s products were meeting the desired and recommended requirements.
In the report, it was noted that many samples collected both from open market and manufacturing units were not meeting the set standards of quality.
Carbonated drinks and water of only one company was, as prescribed by the local and foreign standards, whereas the other firms were not meeting the laid requirements and so were issued warnings.
Mr. Asad further mentioned that ICT had been receiving many complaints against these manufacturers about their production of sub-standard products, both on the official Facebook page and on WhatsApp.
He also said that only one brand of Carbonated drinks—Pepsico and of bottled water—Aquafina was declared to be meeting the national and foreign requirements of food quality.
