On Friday, news came out that Shinzo Abe Prime Minister of Japan has resigned due to health problems.
He announced himself in a press conference that he is stepping down from his post as a Prime Minister as he is suffering from a recurrence of Ulcerative Colitis which is ending his first term in office.
According to Abe, he is getting a new treatment for his disease for which he needs to get himself checked on a regular basis and the treatment takes a lot of time therefore it is not allowing him to discharge his duties as a Prime Minister properly.
He further added that now if he is not able to fulfill the consent from the people confidently so he shouldn’t be at the position of a Prime Minister.
Shinzo Abe is going to stay in the office until his Liberal Democratic Party selects another successor. An election is going to be held between the lawmakers and members of the party.
Finance Minister Taro Aso and Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga are likely going be the candidates for the elections.
PM Abe apologized for his second resignation. He once resigned as a Prime Minister back in 2007 as well.
He apologized to the people of Japan for resigning from his post in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Abe told the people of his country that still there are many policies that are going to be implemented soon.
