The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has banned the installation, sale, and purchase of HID lights in cars. ITP has introduced new traffic regulations to meet global standards.
The District Magistrate Islamabad, Hamza Shafqaat, has imposed section 144 ban on the sale, use, purchase of HID lights in vehicles.
In the notice issued, it is stated that HID lights ‘cause trouble for traffic coming from the opposite direction and are the reason for many fatal accidents’. Also, most of the HID lights are of cheap quality that often causes a short circuit which results in a fire in the vehicle.

SSP Islamabad Traffic Police tweeted, “Islamabad Administration has banned sale /purchase and installation of HID lights. Orders have been issued. @SSPITP will start taking action from tomorrow.”
Many incidents have taken place in the past due to the custom installation of HID lights. But the problem has only been recently identified. As HID lights installed are not of high quality, thus there have been many cases of short-circuiting and vehicles catching fire.
