IT Minister Intends to Transform Karachi into A Digital City

The IT Minister is all set to make betterment to the Information technology sector of the country. He showed his intentions of transforming Karachi into a digital city. Pakistan would be founding a regulatory authority for the provision of high-quality information technology (IT) education in the country. Karachi would be the first ever digital city of Pakistan.

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui—the Federal Minister for IT informed about his intentions at the three-day 18th ITCN Asia IT & Telecom Show and Fire and Safety Asia at the Expo Centre in Karachi on Tuesday.

Khalid Maqbool was interacting with the journalists after he inaugurated the exhibition. The minister paid a visit to many different halls and also addressed a conference on the “Role of IT and Challenges in CPEC”.

The IT Minister said that the suggested authority would be improving the quality of IT and tech education in the country. He said that only those area of IT education would be boosted for education which is in high demand by the industry. He added that Pakistan could only compete on a global level by practising modern information technology.

Khalid Maqbool said that in the present era, many regions are flourishing, however, the thing to ponder upon is that why Pakistan is not progressing. The country’s IT sector had many growth opportunities since the 1990s, but they were missed, at that time Pakistan could have become the hub of the call centre Industry. He added that he is still hopeful that Pakistan could become an engine of growth.

The minister also said that data would be the currency of the future. A data centre would-be built-in Karachi. He also disclosed his intentions of transforming Karachi into a digital city.

Umair Nizam—the Vice President of e-Commerce Gateway Pakistan on the occasion informed that more than six hundred international brands are exhibiting at the exhibition.

He added that nearly two hundred and fifty delegates representing six hundred international firms are attending the exhibition.

It is important to mention that deals of $100 million were made at the 17th ITCN Asia.
