It has been known for a long time that Israel used technology to track the Palestinian militants. Now the Prime Minister of Israel has decided to use this technology to stop the movement of coronavirus in the country.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the new surveillance initiatives on Saturday.
He said, “We are at war with an invisible enemy — the virus. We’ll deploy measures we’ve only previously deployed against terrorists. Some of these will be invasive and infringe on the privacy of those affected. We must adopt a new routine.”
The Country’s security agency Shin Bet has been authorized by Netanyahu and his cabinet to track the technology to monitor the movement of coronavirus patients
In his address, the PM said, “We are one of the few countries with this capability, and we will use it. We must do everything, as a government and as citizens, to not become infected and not to infect others.”
On the basis of the new orders, the authorities will not need an order of the court to track the phones of people and collect data. But as the new regulations are valid for 30 days all the data collected will be deleted after 30 days.
Israel reported 298 infested cases amongst its population of around 8 million people. As per the PM and his cabinet these measures are important to determine whether the patients infected have come in contact with others.
Other than these 4000 Israeli citizens have self-quarantined. They have to report directly to the health ministry. If there will be any disobedience it will lead to arrest.
