Islamabad Metro Bus Project – Rs 5 billion corruption Revealed

While the PML-N government is praised for initiating mega transport, bus, trains & developmental projects in Pakistan, the corruption done and the money misused in these projects is undeniable. Recently another corruption case of PML-N government has surfaced.

In the audit report of Islamabad Metro Bus Project is was revealed that corruption worth Rs 5 billion has been done.

Before this in the Lahore and Multan metro bus project there were also irregularities reported, thus the projects came under NAB radar.

It was revealed in the report that needless construction material was purchased for the project costing Rs 2.26 billion. Similarly, Rs 39 crore was given to the illegal inhabitants of the public property. Furthermore, Rs 27 crore was used on services head much before the buses started operating.

Also, the Metro project in Islamabad/Rawalpindi finished in 20 months instead of 9 months. It was on June 5th when ex-PM Pakistan inaugurated Islamabad/Rawalpindi metro bus service at the Convention Centre.

At that time Sharif claimed that Hanif Abbasi and Shakeel Awan has given metro bus gift to the people of Pakistan appreciating the transparency of the whole project. But now it doesn’t seem so transparent. Rs 5 billion corruption in this project cannot be ignored.

Currently, the Multan metro and Orange line metro train in Lahore corruption cases are under hearing. NAB is conducting an inquiry into Multan metro project and investigating people related to that project.

The new Islamabad metro project has now reached its final stage and it is expected that the project will complete by April 2018. The deadline for the construction of 25.6 km Peshawar More-New Islamabad Airport was set many times, previously and was not met. Now finally the work is rapidly going on in the project and as anticipated the new metro project will be fully ready by April.
