As a signal for revenge, the red flag has been raised over the Jamkaran Mosque in Iran’s Qom. The head of Iran’s elite Quds Force Qassem Soleimani and deputy commander of the Popular Mobilisation Forces Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis were assassinated by the U.S. airstrike. Tensions between Iran and the U.S. have escalated following the assassination of the second most powerful person in Iran.
The attack has been confirmed by Pentagon as they said it came “at the direction of the president”.
The death of Soleimani and al-Muhandis might just change the geopolitics of the Middle East. Iran has vowed that there will be a “harsh” response to these deaths.
As per many tweets, ‘Presumably, for the first time, a Red Flag over the dome of Masjid-e-Jamkaraan in Qom #Iran has been raised. This red flag is believed to indicate that a battle is going on, pledging severe revenge’
The Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that the United States has committed a “grave mistake
While visiting the house of Soleimani’s family in Tehran, Rouhani said, “The Americans did not understand what grave mistake they committed.”
Hamid Mousavi, a political science professor at the University of Tehran, said, “It would be akin to Iran assassinating the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.”
President Donald Trump said that Soleimani was plotting “imminent and sinister attacks” on Americans. He said that he ordered the death of Soleimani to stop a war, not to start one.
