Omer Ayub Khan—the federal power Division Minister has instructed the electricity distribution firms to undertake the geographic information system (GIS) on an immediate basis mapping all 11-Kilovolt feeders and replace 100,000 electromagnetic meters with the digital meters by the end of the next month in order to reduce the line losses.
During a meeting with the CEOs of all the power distribution firms at the Power Division on Monday, the minister instructed the CEOs to ensure personal check or inspection of the power transformers of different capacities on a random basis for making sure of their mechanical fitness.
He also asked for launching a clean-up drive in the densely populated localities and for removing the dangerous wires and other such things.

The federal power division minister also instructed the CEOs to make and impose a 3-month plan for a feeder-wise anti-theft drive in their respective areas for the complete eradication of power theft so that the customers could get unhindered power supply in the season of summers which is approaching.
Previously in the month of December, an anti-power theft drive was initiated by the government for curbing electricity theft.
The minister informed about the drive that it is being executed without any discrimination against the electricity thieves and so far, 8,000 FIRs have been registered.
