A distressed Argentinian fan belonging to Kottayam—Kerala apparently killed himself by jumping into a river on Friday morning after Argentina’s shocking defeat to Croatia in the FIFA World Cup on Thursday.
The Argentinian team incurred a defeat of 3-0 against Croatia in their second group match of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The man is identified as a thirty-year-old fellow—Dinu Alex. He left a note in which he wrote that he could not tolerate the pain of seeing his favourite team’s defeat. A family member said that Alex was apparently distressed after the game and he went missing for a few hours.
The police have launched an immediate search in Meenchal river, but the search was hindered owing to the heavy rainstorm.
Alex’s friends said that Alex was pretty sure that Argentina would rise and comeback and would make it through the next round of the World Cup.
After Argentina’s defeat, Alex was overwhelmed and cried. He also turned off his phone, admitting that his favourite team had let him down.
A local police official informed media that Alex was a big fan of Lionel Messi and was watching the football match with his friends. Later, when his friends tried contacting him, his phone was turned off. At 5:30 am, when his mother searched for him, he was found missing and a note was found.
As per his relatives, Alex was wearing a jersey of Argentina when he was last seen at home.
